Why Clever
Built for ease, not for every school
True Progress exists to help schools understand their students. Signing in and managing accounts should never get in the way of that work.
Some schools run Clever. Some run ClassLink. Some prefer to manage accounts directly. True Progress supports each of these paths, and none is better than another in principle. The right one is whichever fits the way your school already works.
What Clever Is
A single sign-in for K–12 schools
Clever is a platform many schools use to give students and teachers one place to sign in to all of their digital tools. Instead of a separate username and password for every application, each person signs in once and reaches everything from a single screen.
Clever is provided at no cost to schools for sign-on and rostering. True Progress adds no charge of its own for the integration.
One Sign-In
No typing for younger students
With the integration active, True Progress appears in each student's Clever Portal. One click opens the assessment — no separate username, no separate password, nothing new to remember.
For younger students, Clever Badges replaces typing entirely: each child holds a printed badge up to the device's camera and is signed in. The minutes ordinarily spent walking a class of young children through several login fields each, and correcting the inevitable errors, are returned to instruction. Across a year, that is a considerable amount of reclaimed classroom time.
Automatic Rostering
Accounts that stay current
Clever connects to your student information system and keeps True Progress rosters current automatically. When a student enrolls, an account is ready. When a student leaves, access ends. When a class list changes, the change carries through — with no one at your school maintaining accounts by hand.
Schools that prefer to manage this themselves give up nothing by doing so. Clever simply produces the same result without recurring effort, for those who want it that way.
Privacy
What stays private
The integration shares only what sign-in and rostering require: names, usernames, class assignments, and school associations — which students, which classes, which staff, and nothing further. Your school controls the scope of what is shared from your student information system.
Student assessment results, scores, and diagnostic information are not shared with Clever. They remain within True Progress.
All data passing through the integration is encrypted in transit and at rest. Clever does not sell student information.

Connect your SIS to Clever
Your school connects Clever to your student information system. Where Clever is in use, this connection already exists.

Add True Progress from the Clever Library
True Progress is added through your Clever dashboard, and your school's sharing rules determine which students and staff are included.

Accounts stay current
True Progress appears in each user's Clever Portal, and accounts stay current automatically from that point forward.

Questions schools commonly ask
Do we need to use Clever?+
No. Schools can use Clever for automated rostering and single sign-on or manage True Progress accounts directly through roster import or manual entry.
Will this work with our student information system?+
Clever connects to the student information systems independent schools actually run — including Blackbaud, Veracross, and PowerSchool — as well as most other SIS platforms. If your school uses a system you don't see named here, contact support and we'll confirm compatibility before you begin.
What information is shared with Clever?+
Your school chooses which students, classes, and staff to share with True Progress through Clever. True Progress does not send student assessment results, scores, or diagnostic information to Clever.
Is there a cost?+
No. Clever provides sign-on and rostering to schools at no cost, and True Progress adds no charge for the integration.
What happens when a student enrolls or leaves?+
For schools using automated rostering through Clever, changes to shared roster information are reflected in True Progress automatically. Schools managing accounts directly can make those changes in True Progress.
Getting Started
Start with Clever, or without it
Already using Clever
Ask your Clever administrator to add True Progress in your Clever dashboard and confirm your sharing rules for the participating students and staff. True Progress then appears in each user's Portal, and rostering stays current automatically. Our team works alongside your administrator through setup.
Not yet using Clever
You don't need Clever to use True Progress — direct roster import and manual account management are fully supported at no cost. Schools that want Clever's single sign-in and automatic rostering can create an account directly with Clever at clever.com. Once your school is connected, add True Progress from the Clever Library as described above.
